Great book what can really help you

I really liked this book it is very complete with chapters about sizing your machines, discussing virtualization, JVM tuning ( hotspot and JRocket), SOA Suite tuning, the soa infra database, adapters plus design guidelines for your composites. This book has all the answers/checks to identify your problem or build a great SOA Suite solution.
this book of Matt and Nicholas is an impressive achievement and I think they did a lot of research to find the right tuning parameters.

Personally I would change the chapters and help the administrator or developer in the process from nothing to performant SOA Suite server or from a performance problem to a solution. ( the most likely problem first and then to the less likely ).
For me was the JVM tuning was too much, especially JRocket this is replaced a time ago by Java 7 SE suite ( I think you are licensed to use this ), For JVM tuning I just look to the GC when this is once in the 5 minutes I am satisfied and move on to the server, database and BPEL invoker plus dispatchers threads.

I found it a bit strange that they keep on changing the domain scripts for JVM tuning and after a many pages, there is a same paragraph that say you should do it in the WebLogic console and start the managed servers with a NodeManager. Probably this is the most easy way for a cookbook and not having to explain NodeManagers etc. But this is bad practice because every server will have the same memory parameters even the WebLogic Admin server, with clusters you have to change this on every machine plus patching can undo your changes. The JMS bridge part was a bit strange for me, I would only use a bridge with a old WebLogic container or with for example with JBoss and maybe use a Foreign JMS server instead but for other situations I always use SAF, it is the best, very reliable ( the best ) but indeed harder to configure.
What I missed was a chapter about a server Lan and WebLogic channels, the position of the AdminServer on which machine or the combination with OSB and overloading the BPEL engine cause of a async heavy load, I see this at many customer that after some hours of heavy load everything fails ( invoker continues) and which leads to many ( recoverable) entries in the error hospital or many nights of BPEL autorecovery. Too many invoker threads floods the SOA Suite BPEL engine and the only way what works is doing more in memory (BPEL ), less in database and for example add a parameter on the JMS adapter which reads a message every x seconds.

but I know I will use and recommend this book to my customers and off course will try out these tuning parameters.

Interesting read with a lot of good suggestions

I liked this book. I have learned some new things I can use at customers. This book also does not repeat the manuals and other books much which also makes it interesting. It is the first book I have seen with focus completely on performance and tuning of Oracle SOA Suite 11g. Not only does the book contain the usual performance tips and several new ones but it also provides some suggestions for tuning in a virtualized environment (including a suggestion on how to measure cloud performance) and hardware.

I am no fan of the recipe format and would have grouped some things differently to describe a more bottom up or top down approach to tuning a SOA Suite installation. Especially JVM tuning gets a lot of attention. It is clear the authors know what they write about. Also the writing style makes this book an easy and enjoyable read. I did not get bored.

I missed a bit tuning of the OSB. Maybe some BPEL programming practices or patterns which help improving performance. What I also missed was tuning from a high level down to a single BPEL process; how to bridge the gap from JVM measures to BPEL process instances. There is not much focus on dehydration store maintenance which can also be an important factor in improving performance. Clustering issues are barely touched.

On the whole this was an interesting read with a lot of useful suggestions.

Good book with interesting recipes

This book covers almost all aspects of the performance tuning starting from the weblogic server to different SOA components. The highlight being detailed steps on different options available to analyze and troubleshoot the issues.
The modularization of the book is really good. The book starts with the soa infrastructure, listing the different options of monitoring the JVM's, SOA suite and different components like bpel, rules, mediator which are actually really good. BPEL and BPMN tuning tips are already available as part of the performance guides/blogs ,but the authors have captured that as well in this book, which is good in one way so as it helps to bring all the performance tuning options together. Monitoring SOA suite, JVM Garbage collections, Platform tuning are very well covered in the book. It was good to learn we could leverage multiple available options mentioned in the book to monitor/troubleshoot different JVM/server issues.

The book also covers the tuning aspects from process perspective as well as at environment level with equal importance. I recommend this book as a must read for SOA server Administrators as well as SOA Consultants, this book will help you to get most out of the SOA infrastructure. The book will make an interesting read for those people who love to take it the next level.

About time they updated this! This is the most informative book on Star Wars (and I mean everything involved) I've read. I had the original, and now this version is even better. If it were me, rather than a new book every few years, I'd just do an additional volume ever two years, but this is well worth owning and reading. I just wish they'd come out with a Kindle edition!

A great look back at the history of Star Wars and its place in popular culture and the world at large

This hefty 360-page hard cover book provides readers a unique look at not only the history of everything Star Wars but also provides context as to the saga’s place in popular culture and the world it has grown up within. Broken down into yearly chapters, with the exception of the first two pre-Star Wars chapters, you will find everything related to the saga including behind the scenes photos, magazine covers, interesting advertising from Asia, television appearances and so much more.

Beginning with a widely focused if brief chapter covering 1914-1972 which touches on the influences that inspired a young George Lucas to create the Star Wars universe, the book quickly gets to the launch of the original movie in 1977. From then on you will get between four and eight pages per year covering major events related to Star Wars, important social events and interesting items that would later impact the franchise. The years are broken up with multi-page photo sections devoted to interesting subjects like Ralph McQuarrie’s artwork, Star Wars postage stamps and greeting cards among others.

StarWarsYearByYearOf course it is interesting to read the core years when the movies were released but also equally fascinating are the “wilderness years” between the original saga and the prequels. You would think they would be lean but it is interesting to read how much activity there actually was. From Star Wars characters appearing in advertising, various games being released and the seemingly never ending publishing schedule fans never had to look far to find new items to satisfy their Star Wars cravings.

This edition of the book has been updated to include the build-up and release of The Force Awakens and even includes a little bit about the upcoming third season of Rebels and the release of Rogue One. In addition to its timeliness and completeness it is worth noting that the book is lavishly adorned with hundreds of photos and illustrations including one for nearly every significant event in Star Wars history.

Whether you are a life-long Star Wars fan like I am or if The Force Awakens was your introduction to the franchise you will finds a lot to enjoy within the pages of Star Wars Year By Year: A Visual History. From the movies to the animated shows to the most obscure Japanese magazine advertisement it is hard to think of anything that is not covered in the book. As fall approaches I recommend that you make yourself a cup of tea and curl up on the couch to spend a couple hours exploring the history of Star Wars.

About the Author

Dr. Socorro Herrera serves as a professor of Elementary Education at Kansas State University and directs the Center for Intercultural and Multilingual Advocacy (CIMA) in the College of Education. Her K-12 teaching experience includes an emphasis on literacy development. Her research focuses on literacy opportunities with culturally and linguistically diverse students, reading strategies, and teacher preparation for diversity in the classroom. Dr. Herrera has published three books with Allyn and Bacon, Mastering ESL and Bilingual Methods: Differentiated Instruction for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students (2005), Assessment Accommodations for Classroom Teachers of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students (2007), and most recently, Teaching Reading to English Language Learners: Differentiated Literacies (2010). Dr. Herrera has authored articles for numerous nationally known journals such as the Bilingual Research Journal, Journal of Hispanic Higher Education, Journal of Research in Education, and the Journal of Latinos and Education.

 

 

Dr. Kevin Murry is currently an Associate Professor of Secondary Education at Kansas State University and is the Director of Research and Development for the Center for Intercultural and Multilingual Advocacy (CIMA) in the College of Education. His work in research and development has focused on ESL/dual language programming in secondary public schools and teachers’ accommodation readiness for CLD students whose first language is not English and transnational students. Dr. Murry's recent research has emphasized differentiated assessment strategies for CLD students, the professional development of highly-qualified teachers for ELL students, the linguistic and cross-cultural dynamics of ESL instruction, and school restructuring for linguistic diversity.  Dr. Murry’s recent publications have appeared in the Journal of Teaching and Learning, Reading and Writing Quarterly, AACTE Briefs, the Journal of Latinos and Education, as well as, Teacher Education and Practice.

Activating your holy guardian angel.

A serious blue print on how to activate you personal HGA, I must state I'm no fan of patriarchal religions or occult grimore. however working with my HGA for many years, I can attest to what the authors has put forth in this book, there was so much about this grimore that I absolutely agreed with, the first being and most important in my book, is everyone's experience will be different and what is known and proven is if you do the work, you will see results. on page 69 the author goes into detail the disappointment of not upon completing his 18 month Abramelin Samekh ritual he did not get the fireworks, and loud booming voice, puff of smoke he envisioned. and consulted with those whom he trusted one person being author Ochani Lele who laughed and said, what no flash of light?? puff of smoke no demooooooooooon!!, I was laughing so hard I fell off the couch, this is so true and I loved that the author kept it real for folks, as some folks really do expect this after doing any type of spiritual initiation or sabbatical into occult mysteries,, the author also stresses another important point, of going within and shutting the hell up, you will not be able to hear spirit if you cannot turn the frequency off in the mundane world, you must spend time in nature to connect with your higher self, you really must be able to fully connect with self and be and be able to see and hear into the spiritual realm, this requires practice and dedication.

This book is a serious manual to not only activate your HGA but to also learn how to work with this energy, the author also stress also if your HGA tells you things, you already know its not that entity, I can also attest to that, your HGA should be able to tell you things you would never know about a person, situation of thing. there were so many gems in this book and these are the type of grimore that goes straight to the heart of the matter, you will find credible information, rituals and instruction on how to invoke and ultimately have a better quality of life, knowing you have celestial forces at your disposal. while everyone is not going to do an 18 month initiation process after all this is not the 36 chambers of Shaolin type initiation, but expect the same results if you do the work, the author does show you how you too can tap into this energy and have it work for you, that is provided you do the work and apply yourself diligently and honestly, this is serious stuff and not for the lazy practitioner, I will agree with the author while some people may be able to activate this energy easier that others, its no reason why anyone cannot begin to tune into this wonderful frequency, should they devote themselves to this field of study, btw stunning art work inside the cover of the book.

This is absolutely wonderful! The material in this book is made up of individual essays by people who have actually gone through the rite "K&C of the HGA". It is broken down into 4 parts: ' The Nature Of The Angel ' which is very enlightening, lucid and written from three very different perspectives and traditions. 'After The Angel ' which is worth the price of the book alone and should be read more than once, i think anyway, and gives you much to think about and consider if you Really want to do this and the ramifications of going through the ritual. ' The HGA In The Magickal Schools' the two essays in this section are very good. One is from the Ogdoadic Tradition, one from a Thelemite's perspective which is really interesting indeed. And finally, 'The 2011 Blogosphere Debates' which is what brought about the creation of the book in the first place.

The chapters are made up of personal accounts of trying to meet and actually meeting the HGA. There are times when the information will make you take note of who you are and if you are really ready to undertake the rite. It makes the old saying "Man Know Thyself" of supreme importance! Then there are times when it will make you smile, shudder and think about why you want to meet your HGA and what you stand to gain.

I wish that more people would write books like this. The insights that come from personal experience and practice are extremely helpful and genuine. This is what this book is about, genuine experience. Priceless indeed.

The book is really a 'Must Have' and should be read by all who are interested in performing the Rite or if you are interested in Angels in anyway at all.
