About the Author
Ray Holder has worked in the electrical industry for more than 40 years as an apprentice, journeyman, master, field engineer, estimator, business manager, contractor, inspector, and instructor. He is a graduate of Texas State University and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Education. A certified instructor of electrical trades, he has been awarded a lifetime teaching certificate from the Texas Education Agency in the field of Vocational Education. Mr. Holder has taught thousands of students at Austin Community College; Austin Texas Odessa College at Odessa, Texas; Technical-Vocational Institute of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Howard College at San Angelo, Texas, and in the public school systems in Fort Worth and San Antonio, Texas. He is currently Director of Education for Electrical Seminars, Inc. of San Marcos, Texas. Mr. Holder is an active member of the National Fire Protection Association, International Association of Electrical Inspectors, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Practice questions are very much like the real test

I just passed the electrical test for the New Mexico pump installer's license.
I already knew electrical theory and thought I knew the NEC. I spent hours taking the journeyman and master electrician practice tests from this book and it helped me learn how to look up code quickly. The real test, just like the DeWalt tests, had some complex questions where I first had to look up FLA of a motor then determine wire size for specific conditions. There were questions using acronyms and trade terms that are not in the code book. There were also voltage drop and power formula questions.
While this is not a textbook, each question comes with an answer and an explanation of the rationale behind the answer. All calculations are shown and references to the code are given.
Earlier versions of this book came with a CD. This one came with a one-user login to on-line practice exams which are the same as the book, including answers and explanations.
I highly recommend using this guide to prepare for the test.

Great book

Thanks to this book I am now a licensed electrician. You can buy the book amd get the access code and do this online and it's just like the test. It's not the exact test but it helps you search through the code book and makes the real test less stressing trying to find everything.
